Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences Education (JFCSE)

Guidelines for Submission (Revised March 2, 2012)

The Journal of Family and Consumer Sciences Education (JFCSE) publishes original research, literature reviews, conceptual and theoretical essays, and position papers and reports of innovative practice in all areas of education for individual and family life. All manuscripts should include implications for family and consumer sciences educators and researchers.

JFCSE is published twice annually by the Teacher Education affiliate of the Family and Consumer Sciences Education Division of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE). Submissions must not have been published previously and cannot be under consideration by another publication while under review by JFCSE. E-mail notification that a manuscript has been received takes 2-3 weeks. An editor performs an initial screening before a manuscript is sent out for peer review. Reviewers evaluate each manuscript on the basis of content (significance to FCS education, literature review, methodology and analysis, main points, innovation, and creativity) and writing style (clearly written, scholarly, organized, APA 6th edition).

Three categories of manuscripts are accepted:

1. Research. This is original research conducted by the authors including original research, literature reviews, conceptual and theoretical essays. Papers representing alternative modes of inquiry are encouraged. Manuscripts undergo a blind review process with 3 reviewers. (3500-4000 word limit)

2. Promising Practices. These manuscripts focus on future actions for family and consumer sciences education practitioners. They are sent out for peer review. (1000-2000 word limit)

3. Book Reviews. Individuals are invited to write a summary and critique of books selected by the editors. These are reviewed by the editors. (750 word limit)
